Rotary and Rain

I sit now in a little coffee shop near our hotel (with free wifi, of course!) having a latte and toasted, buttered banana bread.

Yesterday the convention completed, and, I confess, we did not take in absolutely everything that it had to offer.  Quite frankly, my head is full.  If Destiny and I can make one or two of the many exciting and valid ideas 'stick' to the Camrose Daybreak Club, it will have been well worth our time.

Yesterday, a convention day - was perhaps the last day of sunshine for us for a bit.
A view inside ANZ Stadium; lots of breakout sessions were held in the periferal meeting rooms around this immense facility.  There were no Rotary events in the open air of ANZ.  You can see the brilliant blue sky - sky looks a bit different today.

Yesterday, school kids in Olympic park playing in the water - there was a proper fountain creating this stream a little ways away - not the kind of things that we do in our winter with school children.  On that note, also overheard a conversation near the train station where a fellow asked an acquaintance how she was enjoying winter.  Really, what's not to enjoy?  I'm ready to move.

Speaking of moving, we are moving hotels today - bit of a story but our original stay was up this a.m..  So we are off to a Travelodge near the University in North Sydney.  Near a train station, so we are still near everything we could possibly want to see.  Our Rotary transport passes expire at the end of today, but we are going to buy a week's transportation pass and keep on exploring.

Yesterday our exploring found this:

And this:

Accounting and drinking - some of my favorite things - and advertising works (of course).

Note my beer on the left and the 'self-serve' pager - Destiny ordered spring rolls - she had to go a ways to accomplish that - and then they sent her back to the table with this gizmo which lit up when her order was ready.  She was so hungry I didn't get a pic of it "lit" unfortunately.  Come to think of it, the spring rolls disappeared quite quickly too.

Our seat opened onto a busy corner near the Capital Theatre where we have tickets to a musical - my first (yes, I don't get out much) - for next Wednesday's matinee of The Lion King.

View of the theatre from our "drinking window".

On Saturday and Monday we have tours planned to Hunter Valley (... wine!) and Blue Mountains (nature and critters ...).

And, after a full seven days here, I am finally getting my clock corrected for down under time.  So enjoy what's left of Wednesday at home, we are going to charge into Thursday and see what treasures we can find.

G'day!

  1. You are 100% right about not being able to take it all in at the Convention. It can be pretty intense after a day or two and latching on to a couple of ideas or so is the way to go. Trying to cover everything is impossible as you have found out.
Good luck at your new hotel and hopefully you will find a restaurant as good as the "Trop" nearby.
There are still many things to see in Sydney both inside and out, and a trip out to Bondi or Manley beaches if the weather is decent could be fun. Do not expect to see many swimmers, it is after all winter!!!!
    Take care.
